Football strategy: Kick the extra point or go for two?
August 6th, 2006 | by Michael |zanti3 asked:
Gi? 28-14, your team a note landing with six minutes left to get within 8. Date of kicks to Tap or go for two? Assume that your team is 95% of its tap and 45% of conversions on two-point. I think everyone has admitted however that, but lle overtime will be played if the adjustment ends in a tie.

Always go for the extra point, it is a lot more likely to make and takes less time, so you will have more time to win

you should go for the pat and just worry about tring to get the TD or even the onside kick and then but your starting QB in if you do score a TD and go for 2

kick PAT and try an onside kick unless your confident enough in your defence kick off and hope for a punt.

kick the extra point just because you dont want to pressure your team into a 2 point conversion if they get the ball back in the endzone and they can have a possible overtime victory.

It would also depend on how much I trust my defense, especially in OT, and how well my special teams are. If I trust my defense, I go for the the PAT. Else, I trust the offense to get the 2, then I trust the hands team to make an onside recovery.

Do or I Die. This team had to have some type of skills for you to be down. Personally I would go for it all if you miss you still got one more chance if you hold them. If you make it and hold them the extra point will win it for you so yeah I would go for it all!!! BIG PLAYERS MAKE BIG PLAYS AND DECISION IN CRUNCH TIME!!!

well if you kick the PAT and make it you will then only be down by seven pts. with plenty of time left to get possesion again and score a TD then you would have to make a decision to go for a tie with another PAT or the win with a 2 pt. In the scenario you set up, kick the PAT.

Six minutes is plenty of time…Kick the PAT to get within 7…
If you go for two, you more likely won’t make it and you’re putting yourself in a bad situation to be down 8.

You only go for 2 when you HAVE to. You kick the PAT to make it 28-21. If you get the ball back and score a TD then the real decision comes up to kick the PAT for OT or to go for 2 for the win.

Kick the extra point. You have a very very high chance of making that and then you are down by 7. If you go for two and make it you are only down by 6, but if you dont you are down by 8, which means even if you get another touchdown you still have to get a 2 point conversion to tie.

Simple, You take 1 since you still have to score again to even tie. Hope you get the onsides kick! lets talk going for two then lol.

c’mon this is a no-brainer, you have to take your extra point here…if you go for it and make it, you’ll still need to score a touchdown on the final drive, although it might save you from having to play overtime, but if you miss, now you have to score the touchdown and make the two-point conversion…the risk factor is too high for a small reward of potentially not having to play overtime

Some of you guys are talking onside kicks with six minutes left. You, as coaches, are fired. That’s ridiculous, especially since your team just got some momentum.
Kick the PAT. Assuming you have no injury issues and you’re not facing one of the top three league defenses, you take the easy point. After the NEXT score, if you think you have real momentum, you could take the 2-point gamble, but I mostly advise the safe extra point try in both cases.
You fail to address home field advantage either. On the road, do NOT play for a tie. That will energize the crowd, and ultimately the other team. Go for two on your last score, if it’s the difference between overtime and a win.

Simple kick the PAT — if you miss the two here you MUST make the next two to tie. Kick here then flip a coin if you score to get within one.

Take 1 point now because 2 points does you no good at this point.
